Families and wee ones

Working with families and wee ones:

The support I offer families and wee ones is rather different to individual therapy. With expectant parents, I offer support through the highs and lows of pregnancy and preparing for baby's arrival. Once baby is here, I focus on helping to support secure attachments so babies can have the best possible start in life.

Although babies cannot speak at birth, they do communicate nonetheless in a myriad of ways. As a mother myself, I appreciate how hard it can be at times having a wee one for the first time and I am passionate about providing a space where expectant or new parents can receive support in all things baby related - from physical and emotional development to sleep-hygiene and feeding.

I work in a strengths focused way to 'keep the baby in mind' and to create 'baby portraits' so that you see how your baby is developing and what to expect next.

My aim is to support baby, but also to support the family unit as a whole and for this end, where possible, I encourage both parents to attend the sessions with their wee ones.

Working with teens and young people:

Sadly, there are more and more young people suffering emotionally. The teenage years are hard enough with changing bodies and huge surges in brain development without the added pressure of 'fitting in', social media and exams. Our young adults can struggle to communicate their feelings and become isolated, not knowing how to ask for help.

Self-harm, substance abuse, increased aggression are a few of the 'signs' that something is going on for teens. They can really benefit from having a non-judgemental space to talk about what they are feeling. I approach my young adult clients with empathy and understanding. These behaviours are how they are trying to communicate their hurt and frustrations.
